I am looking for a way to permanently disable or hide (NOT auto-hide
mind you) the Windows XP taskbar. I know you're probably asking why
anyone would do this. It's not only a matter of security to keep prying
hands away from my computer and its programs, but also a matter of
preference. Just as some people like to customize their windows
installation with elaborate themes and what-not, I would like to
customize my windows to have the simplest and cleanest look possible. I
also hardly use the taskbar, being a large fan of run, and therefore do
not wish to have it glaring at me from the bottom of my screen while I
go about my business.
Hopefully that answered any questions about why? Now the main question
I have is how? I don't know for sure that there is an easy little
regkey change to do this and have certainly not found it yet. I know
many people simply say to stop explorer, but then run doesn't even work
unless you use ctrl+alt+del, so I see that as being pointless. I want
explorer running still. If there is a program that can permanently do
this, so that when I restart it is still gone, I am very interested (as
well as in the source code). I am not a heavy programmer, in fact not
even a light one, but I have some friends that are OK to decent at C++
and Java. A simple program whose function was to enable/disable the
taskbar is all I ask of. That or something of relevant significance.
One more thing - Though not as important as just getting rid of it, is
the interesting concept of how the taskbar acts when temporarily
disabled by some resource-intensive programs. Sometimes the taskbar
will be gone, but maximize will only utilize about 97% of the screen,
the 3% being where the taskbar used to be as if there was still an
invisible taskbar still there when of course, there is not. So, that is
another concern.
Good luck and thank you.
